It had taken a bit of time but eventually, Blueray came to accept Skywing and befriended him. Likewise, said mech seemed happy to find a friend in the small blue mech, a smile gracing his face and replacing the depressed frown. Volts had watched with amusement as Skywing asked Blueray about his profession and what else happened around the base. The blue and lime green mech could tell though that whenever the blue and white mech mentioned the other mechs of the base Skywing would frown and his wings would either droop or stiffen. Of course, this was always altered when something happy was mentioned. After a while of talking, Blueray went on to his quarters while Volts led Skywing to the rec. room for some energon and to figure out the gold mech's problem with taking on a new appearance and name. Walking through the large door frame Volts led Skywing to a couch and pointed him to it while walking over to the energon dispenser. Complying, the gold mech sat down and watched as Volts walked back over and handed him a cube filled with the pink substance.

''Thank you...''

''No problem.'' Volts replied with a small smile. ''So. You need a new name and look. Guess we could start with your name first. Anything you would prefer?''

Skywing thought over the question as he sipped his energon. ''Mmm...not really...'' Blinking in realization, Skywing gazed over at Volts apologetically. ''I'm sorry, I'm not making this easy for you.'' The mech's frown deepened. ''You don't have to help me, Volts...I shouldn't be burdening you with my problems...'' Skywing lowered his gaze to the ground, wings drooping a little.

Staring at the mech beside him for a long moment the blue mech frowned. ''Sky, I want to help you. You're not making me do anything.'' A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. ''And it's okay that you don't know. Makes this all the more fun. Personally, you look like a 'Sky' kind of bot to me so we'll start with that. 'Kay?''

Skywing nodded, a small smile of his own appearing. ''Alright, Volts.''

Volts' own smile morphed into a grin. ''Great. So,'' Settling back against the couch, Volts took on a thoughtful expression while staring at the ceiling. ''What would go good with 'Sky'.....''

Skywing regarded the mech beside him curiously, optics glowing softly.

''How 'bout....Burst? Skyburst?'' Volts glanced over at Skywing who scrunched his face and shook his head, the action bringing a small smirk to his face and a light chuckle. ''No? Alright then, mmmh.....Ring? Oh, no, that sounds dumb...Ah....'' As Volts pondered his receptors idly twitched. ''Okay, let's try this, what do you use as a weapon?'' The blue mech turned his attention to the other.

Skywing blinked. ''My weapon? Oh....I, uh, have a wide variety....''

Volts sighed, rolling his optics in good nature. ''Geez. What's your most....preferred weapon then?''

Skywing blinked again, face turning a light shade of red in embarrassment. ''U-uhm...M-my swords I guess....''

Volts' optics brightened at these words, apparently having not noticed the stuttering. ''Oh! How about Skyblade then?'' A triumphant grin played on the mech's face as he turned to the other.

Skywing stared at Volts for a long moment, letting the name roll around in his processor for a bit. A smile then spread across his face, the action obviously making Volts happier and a little more excited that he had come up with something acceptable. ''Skyblade....I like it.''

''Great!'' Volts' optics brightened considerably. The blue mech however then deflated. ''But, I'm not so sure about how to change how ya look....''

Skyblade smiled, lightly placing a servo on Volts' shoulder. '' I think I can handle that.'' He said. Removing his servo, Skyblade glanced back at his wings.

Pulling them in towards his back, the upper half of the wings folded in towards the lower portion, the metallic feathers neatly falling in place. As Skyblade's wings took on a soft glow, the two pieces started to melt into each other until they were one, unbroken piece. Watching this with wide optics, Volts stared in surprise.

''Whoa....Well, that solved that problem.'' Volts snickered, lightly shaking his head and then continuing to watch.

Smiling, Skyblade nodded as his receptors also lost their feathers and became one, the mini wing-like pieces at the outside of the golden mech's feet disappearing as well.

''Okay, let's get you an alternate mode next then. ''Volts grinned, standing up and looking down at Skyblade expectantly.

The golden mech chuckled as he stood up, smiling. ''Alright, alright. Don't get ahead of yourself.''

Volts' grin widened. ''No promises. C'mon, the computer is this way.'' Waving a servo in a beckoning fashion, Volts once again led Skyblade down the hall and to another room, the empty energon cubes being cast into the garbage disposal. At the command center the blue mech pulled up a file of some Cybertronian and Earthen aircraft.

''Here ya go. Just download your choice and -ta da!- new alt. mode.'' The mech smiled brightly at the other while stepping out of the way.

Skyblade smiled and stepped forward, looking through the different aircraft with curiousity. Scanning through the lists it only took a few moments before the golden mech had selected. Peeking around Skyblade in curiosity, Volts blinked and grinned.

''That's a fast one. Ya like speed then?'' He asked as he turned his gaze up to the other.

Skyblade smiled and chuckled. ''Among other things. But, among the others, this one will be more compatible with my programming.'' He nodded as he downloaded the data.

Within moments his plating changed, though the difference subtle compared to the altering of his wings and receptors. Seeing this, Volts smiled once again.

''And you're all set! So, where ya gonna go next?'' Volts paused, hesitating. ''Or, you could stay here if ya want.''

Skyblade looked down at the mech beside him, canting his a little as he thought over the question. ''I'm not to sure, to be honest. I've...'' Skyblade looked down and to the side, frowning. '' I've never really had to deal with a situation like this. My life was a lot different then it is now...''

Volts frowned, optics dimming a little. ''You're saying you've never been away from home?''

Skyblade wouldn't raise his gaze but nodded. ''Yes...I know, it sounds pathetic.'' The golden mech's frown deepened.

Blinking in surprise at Skyblade's words, Volts quickly shook his head. ''Oh, no, it's not.'' A smile then crept onto his features. ''Sounds like home must have been nice.''

''Yeah...'' A small smile appeared on Skyblade's face as he raised his head to look over at Volts. ''I loved living there but...''

Volts held up a servo and shook his head. ''Say no more. Since ya have no where to go, really, why not join the group here? The other mechs are pretty accepting when it comes to getting' new guys.'' Volts grinned, turning and heading back out the door. ''Come on, Sky, the others will be back later today so until then I can bring ya up to speed with what's going on.''

Smiling and nodding, Skyblade followed the blue mech ahead of him.

As Volts had said, the other autobots of the base did not return until late that night, and apparently the day had been uneventful. Stalking into the command center, the four mechs including Slpishot and Vortex, stared in surprise at the new comer.

''Who's this?'' Slipshot whispered to Volts who had just come back from getting data pads with information on Earth.

''Hm? Oh, that's a new recruit. His name's Skyblade.'' Volts grinned, walking over to said mech and handing him the pads.

Taking the data, Skyblade smiled and nodded to the mechs who had just arrived. ''Nice to meet you.''

The mech named Vortex stepped forward and looked the other up and down. ''Skyblade, huh? What's your skill?''

Skyblade idly shrugged. ''I specialize in many areas. I'm best in combat though.'' He replied.

''Hmm...'' Vortex slowly nodded and turned his gaze to the others behind him. ''What do you guys think?''

A rather small, lime green mech looked over at Skyblade and smirked. ''He looks cool to me. Whatcha think, Buster?'' He asked the tall, bulky, rust colored mech beside him.

Buster grinned and nodded. ''Should work out just fine. Hey, Sparky, where'd ya find this bot?''

Volts frowned, twitching at the name. ''Don't call me Sparky, bolts-for-processor. And if you must know, out near my post.'' He answered with more than a hint of agitation.

Skyblade glanced down at Volts, taking notice of the negative reaction to the name and deciding that it was something he would be smart to remember. Returning his attention to the four mechs in front of him, Skyblade frowned.

Slipshot nodded as the others finished their opinions. ''Alright, Skyblade, you're on the team. Welcome aboard.''
